About 30 km away from Damascus Lies Saydnaya, the village
spread out over a hilltop surrounded by vineyards and olive
groves. It has a famous monastery founded in 547 and dedicated
to Blessed Virgin.
The name “Seyda Naya” in Syriac language means “Our Lady”.
The monastery contains a portrait of the Virgin believed to have
been painted by St. Luke.
